Fremont, OH: May 16, 2016: U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker presented The Fremont Company with The President’s “E” Award for Excellence in Exporting, at a Department of Commerce ceremony in Washington, DC. The President’s “E” Award is the highest recognition awarded to U.S. companies for making a significant contribution to the expansion of U.S. exports.

“The Fremont Company has demonstrated a sustained commitment to export expansion. The “E” Awards Committee was very impressed with The Fremont Company’s consistent growth in export sales. The company’s customization of product labeling to comply with differing export markets was also particularly notable. The Fremont Company’s achievements have undoubtedly contributed to national export expansion efforts that support the U.S. economy and create American jobs,” said Secretary Pritzker in her congratulatory letter to Mike Hackbarth, Vice President of Private Brands announcing its selection as an “E” Award recipient.

The Fremont Company is a leading exporter of Ketchup and BBQ Sauces. Along with its Mississippi Brand BBQ sauce sold in Europe, The Fremont Company manufacturers private brand condiments for major brands and retailers domestically and worldwide.

“The Fremont Company is honored to be 1 of the 64 U.S. manufacturers to receive an “E” Award this year and proud to be one of only two food manufacturers to receive this prestigious distinction. Our export business is a critical component of our overall business structure and enables our company to provide local jobs, and brings overseas revenue into the U.S. economy,” says Chris Smith, President of The Fremont Company.

In 1961, President Kennedy signed an executive order reviving the World War II “E” symbol of excellence to honor and provide recognition to America’s exporters. Today, Secretary Pritzker honored 123 U.S. companies with the President’s “E” Award, from all 50 states and District of Columbia, for their outstanding work to reduce barriers to foreign markets and to open the door to more trade around the world.

In 2015, U.S. exports totaled $2.2 trillion, accounting for nearly 13 percent of U.S. GDP. Nationally, exports contributed to the U.S. economy, supporting an estimated 11.5 million jobs.

U.S. companies are nominated for the “E” Awards through the Department of Commerce’s U.S. Commercial Service office network, located within the Department’s International Trade Administration, with offices in 108 U.S. cities and more than 70 countries.
